What is a Deck or Porch in NYC  :  Accroding to NYC  DOB ” A deck or porch is an un-enclosed, un-roofed, relatively level paved or planted area adjoining a building. It is supported by structural framing above the surrounding ground at the level of the first story of a house. “.

Homeowner in NYC are  required  to maintain their decks and  properties in a safe condition at all times.
